Human Simulation and Patient Safety

Education

Overview:

Within the framework of education our Center's efforts are multifaceted. We have initiatives in both the basic sciences and clinical training phases of the medical school curriculum. We are working to provide a greater experiential learning environment that allows for interactive experiences integrating foundations of knowledge with critical thinking, problem solving and clinical inquiry.

Additionally, we are active with numerous clinical departments at the VCU Health System to deliver effective scenario based training to housestaff and residents. These efforts are oriented towards allowing for interdisciplinary interaction and thus effective team development for greater patient safety. For example, we are validating an effective scenario delivery within a multi-phased decision algorithm in the arena of obstetric and gynecologic emergencies.
